Carers Rights Day 2025 - free events for unpaid carers in Surrey
Do you know your rights?
Carers Rights Day takes place on Thursday 20th November, 2025
Carers’ Rights Day is a national event when unpaid carers are encouraged to learn about their rights and understand how to access them.
It’s also when everyone (statutory bodies, employers, schools etc) is encouraged to be better informed on carers’ rights, and help ensure carers get all the support they need.
Join us to celebrate Carers Rights Day with Hub and online sessions.
As a carer, knowing your rights empowers you with information about what you’re entitled to and helps you feel confident asking for what you need, as well as challenging things when your rights are not being met.
This could be in the workplace or education, in accessing health or social care, or when interacting with professionals, or at home.
Marking Carers Rights Day we’re running the following ‘rights’ events, free to Surrey’s unpaid carers:
Carers Rights with Professor Luke Clements
Thursday 20th November, 10am-12.30pm (with break), online
Luke Clements is a solicitor and Cerebra Professor of Law and Justice. He is a widely known, respected campaigner for carers’ rights and written an influential guide “Carers and their Rights”.
Please join us for an online, interactive event. The first part will look at rights for all carers – what they are, recent changes, how to access them, and what to do if you feel your rights aren’t being met.
The second part will focus on the Law Commission’s recent work on the reform of Disabled Children’s Social Care law around assessment and support of disabled children and their carers. Please submit any questions before the session for Luke to address.
You are welcome to attend both parts of the talk, or just one.
Book your space here, or call 0303 040 1234 (press option 2).
Know Your Rights Quiz Sessions
These sessions will take place at several of our Hubs in the week/s around Carers Rights Day.
Please join us at Cranleigh, Epsom, Farnham, Godalming, Horley, Epsom, Shepperton or Woking. Or you can join our online session Friday 21st November.
These are fun sessions with a serious side – checking what you know about your rights, and filling any gaps in your knowledge. There’s prizes – a gift voucher for the winner at each event!
Carers Assessments & the new SCC respite break offer
Led by SCC Carer Practice Advisers: 18 November, 7-8.30pm
Join us for an informative online session with experts from Surrey County Council and our Action for Carers Surrey team. Learn what a Carers Assessment involves and how to access Surrey’s new £300 Carer Wellbeing Break payment.
This session is ideal for those new to caring, unsure if they qualify, or seeking a reassessment. It’s a friendly and reassuring opportunity to understand your rights and the support available.
There will also be time for an open discussion with our panel of experts, where you can ask questions or share any concerns in a supportive environment.
Learn more and book your space here, or call 0303 040 1234 (press option 2).

Rights for all carers
Carers’ Rights Day highlights the importance of all carers, whatever the stage of their caring journey, knowing and understanding their rights – and being able to access all the support they are entitled to and need.
Rights for carers include your right to a Carer’s Assessment, your rights at work, and your right not to be discriminated against.
Young carers have similar rights of course too, with some variations.
